Welcome to Class 1
Snow Day Challenge
Challenge- Oh no! The fox from The Gingerbread Man has to carry one of your toys across the river and he can’t choose which one to take! He’s lazy, so he wants to take the lighter toy. Which one is it? Can you investigate? Which toy is heavier? Can you put all the toys into weight order?
Parents – encourage your child to choose at least 3 of their favourite toys to compare. Can they weigh them in their hands first, see which ones they think are lighter/heavier, and put them in order? Now, if you have them, they are welcome to use kitchen scales (it doesn’t matter what type of scales you use but if they are digital the children don’t need to be using the large hundred numbers at this stage, you can help them with talking about which numbers they can read and which they think may be the larger number) to check their answer. Were they correct? Now ask your child to draw a picture of their toys in order from lightest to heaviest and label each one (for example, teddy, car…). Make sure they label which one the lazy fox would choose. Can they find the initial and final sounds of the word? Can they write the letters independently? Let us know how your child does with this.
